Boron is quite a peculiar element of the Periodic Table; it combines with practically all elements forming rich architectural constructs in the form of different polyhedral structures. The boranes (B2H6, B4H10, closo-BnHn(2-) ...) are combinations of B and H. Heteroboranes are formed when substituting B atoms by other elements (N, C, O, ..., TM); substitution of B by C leads to the so-called carboranes. This talk will focus on aspects of the electronic structures of heteroboranes, mainly focusing on carboranes, with examples in mathematics, physics and chemistry.
