Knowledge about the nature of the catalytic active sites, electronic and
molecular structures, on the surfaces of mixed metal oxide catalytic materials
has become available in recent years due to significant advances of in situ
spectroscopic methods (Raman, IR, UV-Vis, etc.). Coupling of this molecular
level information with the corresponding surface chemistry is, for the first
time, allowing the establishment of electronic/molecular
structure-activity/selectivity relationships.
Furthermore, these new fundamental insights are also providing molecular
level information for theoretical modelling of surface chemical events at
catalytic active sites.
