Two-state reactivity paradigm plays a significant role in transition-metal containing catalysts. The following reactions will be treated:
- Cr, CrO, CrO₂ cations + CH4
- Fe, Fe₂ cations + CH₄
- cyclotrimerization of acetylene with Nb and Nb/MgO
- direct insertion of O₂ into the Pt-H bond
- NO3- reduction by nitrate reductase
